It's a wonderful game, but sometimes it almost defies credibility.
NS are Vul and they start a bidding sequence likely to lead to an unbreakable slam . My partner is made of sterling qualities and initiates a competitive auction as follows:
N E S W
1H NB(1) 2C 2S(2)
3C 3S(3) 4H 4S(4)
4NT(5) 5S(6) 6H(7) 6S(8)
X(9) NB(10) NB(11) NB(12)
(1) dead accurate !!
(2) seems
a good idea..... gives a lead etc.....
(3) well
it's competitive !!
(4) I
agree...
(5) RKCB I
think.....
(6) it
makes things difficult.......not in my nature but ....well...
(7) damn
his hide..........
(8) I
don't think there's a defence
(9) " got
to I suppose "
(10) seems
like a good sacrifice
(11) I
think we've been cheated of our slam.
(12) seems
like a good sacrifice...........
Thus ended the bidding....... Half way through the play, it occurred to all at the table that something very unusual was in the offing. Sure enough, my partner had played the hand brilliantly to MAKE the sacrificial slam in Spades.......... The hands were as follows:
S
A
H KQJ92
D QJ5
C AQ42
S KQT863 S J9742
H - H 85
D A98743 D K62
C 3 C T95
S 5
H AJ7643
D T
C KJ876
N
was required to enter on the traveller MINUS 1210 rather than PLUS
1430 . Impossible you may say.....
Imagine
the Queen of Diamonds lead........................
Be optimistic………. AND LUCKY
